Sports Betting Sites (Unnamed Copywriting)

If you don’t live in Nevada, or one of the other select states that allow gambling, and aren’t using sports betting sites, then in order to gamble on a sporting event, the chances are very good that you have to break the law.

It is an American pastime. It was been occurring for almost a century. It is a regular way of life. But, just picking up your phone and calling your bookie to bet the weekend football games is completely illegal. There are an awful lot of arguments that it shouldn’t be, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is.

In most states, illegal gambling, which is defined as “the making, placing or receipt, of any bet or wager of making money or other thing of value, made in exchange for a chance to win a prize, stake or other consideration of value dependant of a game, contest, or any other event which the outcome is a matter of chance,” is a third degree misdemeanor. The penalty varies from state to state, but on average you can face up to sixty days in jail and a fine of up to five hundred dollars.

You may thing that they only go after the bookies themselves, but you’re wrong. When law enforcement goes after a bookie ring, they will grab as many of the players as they can as well. Obviously, their main targets are the bookies themselves. But, they are not going to allow people who are breaking the law to just “get away” with it. Do not forget that they know what you are doing is illegal.

So, what are you to do if you want to gamble on sports and you don’t live in a state that allows this? Well, you could call a casino in state that allows it and try to get a bet with them. This is very hard to accomplish, and more importantly, leaves you completely on your own in terms of researching the sport. Another option is to call someone you know who lives near a casino and ask them to place the bet for you. But, again, this is a risky endeavor, because there is no protection for you if you don’t get your winnings. The ticket isn’t even in your name.

If you’re going to bet on sports, your online legal option is to use sports betting sites on the internet. It is legal and you are protected. There is no risk of going to jail, and there’s no risk of not getting paid.
